Project Description

The Brief

The Career Mentoring Scheme at Sheffield Hallam University pairs students with professionals who mentor and help them to make decisions about their career. We were asked by the Careers and Employability team to create some e-learning to support mentors and mentees.

What we did

We wanted to make sure we understood what e-learning they might need and why so we arranged two half-day workshops with Linda, the scheme co-ordinator.

Together we mapped out user experience journeys for mentors, mentees and the Careers and Employability team who administer the scheme and help it to run smoothly. We also talked about the various IT systems and communication channels at the university.

It became clear to us that e-learning wasn’t the right answer here. Instead, we recommended using WordPress to create a single location where all participants could access information and resources online.

After creating the site, we handed it over for the Careers and Employability team to update and manage themselves.

Wordpress 98%
Front-end development 80%
Content analysis 90%
Face-to-face training 88%

The value

Having all of the information and resources in one place has streamlined the experience for students and professionals. It has also reduced the level of admin required to run the scheme, giving the team more time to spend doing what they do best – providing careers advice to students. Thanks for working with us Sheffield Hallam University!
